Ahead of the mandate

I flagged British Columbia's new forward-facing dashcam rule to a major forest-products customer before they had heard of it.

6 monthsCompliance runway
1 wireInstall for the recommended camera
PilotPlace in Geotab's satellite-device pilot
4 provincesOperations, shared with a partner contractor

The problem

The customer runs woodlands operations across BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, sharing a database with a partner contractor. British Columbia introduced a forward-facing dashcam mandate they didn't yet know about. Their harvesting equipment works in cut blocks with no cellular coverage, and contractor fleets mix equipment makers, each with its own telematics.

What I did

  • Brought the mandate to the customer with its six-month clock, and recommended a camera that fits their existing Geotab setup with a single-wire install, which also opened an upsell.
  • Secured them a place on Geotab's pilot list for satellite-enabled devices, for equipment working outside cellular coverage.
  • Handled a reassignment of about 24 trucks between the customer, its partner and subcontractors.
  • Kept the monthly cadence going through softwood tariffs, a mill shutdown, selective shutdowns and flooding.

The result

Six months of runway to comply instead of a scramble, a path to cover equipment beyond cell range, and an account kept through a hard stretch for the industry.
